Disappointed by faulty product

Do not buy a Kindle from this supplier on takealot! I ordered a brand new kindle paperwhite 2023 as a gift in the beginning of Dec for a birthday in Jan. My daughter opened her gift and set up the kindle and loaded her books, etc. All happiness. Then (take note that she has not even moved this item from her room) when she turned it on again it had a white block and lines across the right hand side of the screen appear. This had not been dropped or mishandled in any way or form. It literally sat in a bed side drawer in a little bag she had put it in! I submitted return and was declined saying that: I didn’t report it in time (7days) - it was a gift so hadn’t been opened in time! Hardly expected **** quality item as have ordered many times from takealot. Box was opened - deemed as damaged - how is one supposed to know if an item works if they not allowed to open the box?? Was only turned on back at warehouse when return was received and in five minutes they deemed it to be our fault = user damage Not covered by warranty as a result. There is no dents nor scratches or anything so if I had damaged it this would be visible surely?? I am not lying just to get a replacement. I honestly just got a dud and now am told “sorry for you” So I have saved up and spent over R4k on an item that I literally turned on twice and is now useless to me!!! I don’t even know if or where I can have this repaired and how much more it will cost me. I barely had the funds to buy this product!! Stay away from this product and provider. Service is shocking. I am heartbroken
