Failed faulty return

I have been trying to return a faulty item since the beginning of December, it was collected 3 weeks after logging my original return and after chasing them for the return, the item was then returned back to me less than a week after the collection with no arrangements made with me and am still confused as to why it was returned back when I made it clear that I wanted a refund from them.
