This company, in conjunction with the body corporates of complexes that use this system, ******* residents. They charge at least 24 % higher than eskom rates. It's one of the things you don't realize when you buy a property in an estate, the expenses that you keep paying directly or indirectly to the body corporate are excessive, and make it way more expensive in the long term than just buying a stand alone house.

01 Sept 2021, 15:53Thank you for contacting us via Hello Peter. STss role is to recover the electricity costs on behalf of the complex via the prepaid electricity system. STss does not supply, purchase or resell electricity. The recovery rate per kWh is determined by the Trustees of the complex and must be sufficient to cover the monthly electricity bill received from the electricity provider. Please contact the Trustees to receive an explanation on the recovery rate set for the complex. The prepaid electricity system was implemented at the scheme due to growing concerns that owners and residents were not able to pay the electricity bill at month end. The Prepaid system allows the complex to recover the costs as the electricity is used by the residents so that at month end, the complex can pay the bulk electricity bill for the whole complex. STss charges a vending fee of 10% for managing the Prepaid System.
