STSS *******!!!
I have moved into a unit it May 2015 that has been fitted with an STSS meter. The rates are extremely high. For a R100 I only receive 56klw which lasts 3 days, and there is no usage in my unit the entire day as we are a working couple. The geyser and non essential appliances have been turned off, we don't even make use of the TV as the usage drops. It takes approx. 8klw to heat up the geyser. People that buy normal electricity from Pick n Pay or Spar get 100klw for R100.00 can someone please explain why we are being billed differently. I am even considering to not renew my lease as the electricity is ridiculous and I feel that we are being ********** by this company and something should be done, they should be inspected I am not prepared to go on like this
As you are no doubt aware, both Eskom and City Power have recently increased their rates. In addition, winter consumption is generally higher and will result in higher costs. As we always point out, STss does not purchase and sell electricity. We use pre-paid meters to recover electricity costs on behalf of the Body Corporate.
The rate which is charged per kWh is set by the trustees of your complex, and this rate must include sufficient funds to pay the bulk account for electricity used in common areas of the complex.
This rate includes the following costs: 1. Network Demand Fee - cost required by the Body Corporate. 2. Environmental Fee. 3. Rural subsidy. 4. Administration Fee. 5. Charge per kWh. 6. Value Added Tax. 7. Total of the above, which is then divided by the total kWh's consumed in the month, to determine a collective rate to charge per kWh to cover item 7 above. The final kWh rate is therefore normally higher than just item no 5 as it has to include the total sum of all the items charged, plus the cost of the vending system.
