STSS Prepaid Electric Robbing Us
I have just moved into a complex where STSS is a electricity provider and there rates are too expensive.<br> <br> I recently bought electric units for R150 and I only got 72 units, where I stayed previously I would have gotten at least 144 units for that much. This is ridiculous, STSS is robbing us. <br> <br> Is it even legal do to that. As it is Eskom tariffs are too high and to have someone else add extra charge is not ok at all. <br> <br> CAN SOME HELP OUT THERE.

Firstly it is important to note that STss does not purchase and sell electricity. Only municipalities have the authority to do this. STss uses pre-paid meters to recover electricity on behalf of the Body Corporate. The Board of Trustees in your complex which acts on behalf of the Body Corporate (all the owners), has determined a rate per kWh to charge residents for their electricity usage in order to recover sufficient funds to pay the bulk account of the complex each month.
The bulk account which comes either direct from Eskom or the local municipality, comprises of various costs, including a Network Demand Fee, and Environmental Fee, the Rural Subsidy, their administration fee, VAT, etc, all of which are charged on top of the actual cost per kWh. A very small additional charge is levied for the vending system and all these costs are divided by the total kWh's consumed per month and this is the rate at which electricity is charged in the complex. Should you be unhappy with this rate, your query should be directed to your Trustees.
