Something's Wrong with the New Meter – Electricity Disappearing Too Fast

We moved into our apartment at the end of March and had no issues with our electricity until mid-April, when our meter box showed an error. We logged a call with STSS Metering, and they came out to replace the meter.

Ever since the new meter was installed, the electricity consumption has been ridiculous. Last night, we got home around 21:39 and immediately loaded R100 worth of electricity. We went straight to bed after that. The only person at home during the day was our aunty, who doesn’t cook or use high-power appliances. When we got back from work this evening, the electricity was already beeping!

As I’m posting this, we are literally sitting in the dark with a child in the house. This is unacceptable. Something is clearly off with the new meter, and we need a proper investigation and resolution. We can’t keep throwing money into electricity that disappears overnight with minimal usage

Thank you for bringing your concern to our attention. We understand how important accurate consumption data is, and we take your feedback seriously.

Your query was escalated to our Financial Controller Team by our Call Centre Agent, in line with our standard investigation process. As part of this, you were also advised to perform an overnight consumption check to help validate the usage.

Following our preliminary reconciliation, the unit’s average daily consumption since the installation of the new meter on 9 April 2025 is 18.02 kWh. This falls within the expected range for a household with four occupants.

That said, we’re committed to ensuring your concerns are fully addressed. A member of our Financial Controller Team will be reaching out to you today to assist further and work toward a resolution.

Thank you again for your patience and for allowing us to investigate.
