I bought a chain from sterns 12 months ago and hardly wear it

I bought a chain from sterns 12 months ago and hardly wear it. Recently put it on and the link broke. I took to Sterns just to join the link again and they came back with an invoice of R780.00 which is an enormous amount of money to repair a link. Upon asking who the supplier was they didn't want to disclose which is pretty *****. I caution all consumers against this practice from Sterns at Southgate Mall....think twice before you even buy anything from them because the quality of their products are questionable.
