Theft at Sterling Kinekor

My 14 year old daughter and her boyfriend had their bags looted while watching a movie at Ster Kinekor Eastgate on Friday evening. His cell phone, all her pocket money and her Christmas gift from him,a Burberry perfume (which he saved for and which cost over R1000), we're ******. At the time, they reported the incident to Ster Kinekor who took their names and said they'd call them in the morning.

On Saturday, having heard nothing from Ster Kinekor, we contacted Eastgate Centre management and Ster Kinekor ourselves. Centre management informed us that they are well aware of this problem as numerous similar incidents have taken place. They have alerted and warned Ster Kinekor who have, unfortunately, done little to address it.

Ster Kinekor have informed us that they have two signs telling patrons to look after their belongings and an advert warning patrons to 'beware of raptors'.

Our children pushed their bags under their seats believing that, in this way, they were protecting their belongings. Telling them to 'beware of raptors' downplays the problem and does not alert them as to the very real threat.

My daughter and her boyfriend go to Eastgate Ster Kinekor weekly. As regular patrons of this cinema, they deserve more. I find the lack of accountability by Ster Kinekor for the safety of the belongings of their loyal customers unacceptable. They are aware that they have a problem and owe it to their customers to highlight the nature of the problem so that they can take the necessary precautionary measures.
