Sterkinekor - You place of lies

It seems that since the launch of the new site that it's been a downward spiral for Ster-kinekor. To book a movie is a daunting task and the mobile app is not working at all, keeping on the loading page forever. I really feel for the staff working in the outlets as the amount of screaming they have to endure because of the pathetic state of Ster-kinekor platforms...

So back to why I am writing this review. A while ago we tried to obtain our Discovery movie card from Ster-kinekor The Grove. We were told that they don’t issue it there and that we must phone Discovery. We phoned Discovery and then was told that we need to obtain if from a Ster-kinekor outlet. So we went back to the counter only to be referred back to Discovery. We phoned Discovery and then took the phone to the Manager so that Discovery can talk directly to the Manager to get this issue resolved. I must say that the staff at Ster-kinekor are really good with giving adequate reasons on why they can’t issue a card but suddenly after the Manager talked to the staff member at Discovery we were issued with a card. Lies, lies and more lies.

We had a second ********** experience with buying a ticket and was met with absolute lacklustre staff. However, I already vented adequately about this with the cluster manager for The Grove and as such not going to repeat it here. Here I can say that the Kollonade really sets a high level of service that The Grove and Wonderpark can go and witness. We had a second issue here and within seconds management took a decision and we were off to watch the movie so high five to the Kollonade. However more lies, lies and more lies for Ster-kinekor and The Grove.

So last week, after the two subsequent ********** experiences with Ster-kinekor and The Grove, we went back for more. We tried to apply for a Discovery movie card for myself (the other one was for my partner) and we completed the documents and everything. Palesa told us then that she sees that the cards aren’t allocated to her and that she will be back. After a while Thapelo (we asked Palesa for her name) came and said that Ster-kinekor can’t issue cards and that we must apply online. So next best thing I received a notification on my Discovery app (unlike Ster-kinekor app that doesn’t work) that a digital card was issued (the one that Thapelo said Ster-kinekor can’t for on our behalf?!). I phoned the cluster manager again who phoned me back and said that she will take it up with the manager. I then went back to the counter and asked why I can’t be issued the card if the digital card and the physical card have the same numbers? Thapelo then talked in her native language to Palesa and to say that I am very angry is an understatement as I understood what she said and what she said about us was offensive. In the end were issued with a card after lies, lies and more lies.

Ster-kinekor, please sort out the Discovery process and tell your staff to stop lying at The Grove outlet an also make the staff aware that there are people out there that can talk more than two languages in South Africa. Get your platforms sorted especially the app!

So even after three strikes of really, really bad service and lies upon lies we watched three movies that night but we realised that night is that Ster-kinekor should change their slogan from “Ster-kinekor – Your happy place” to “Ster-kinekor – You place of lies”.

On the other hand, the staff working in The Prestige at The Grove are amazing. They are really friendly and treat you like VIPs. They know us by name and know what we like to eat (we tend to go there often). Five out of five from that team!
