Ster Kinekor Mall of Africa: theft

Good Evening. On Saturday the 2nd of February I went to Mall of Africa Ster Kinekor and watched how to train your dragon (19h30 show). I left my handbag between my leg and my fiancés leg as I usually do since you guys warn us about "raptors". No one was seated on either side of us up to two seats. The handbag was not left under the seat. During the movie, my wallet (costing R2500) and my cellphone (valued at R17000) was ****** by a person who was crawling under the entire of Row J and then proceeded to crawl under the entire of row K to raid another woman's handbag (luckily they dropped hers). I immediately knew my belongings were ****** because I always proceed to take my phone off silent after a movie finishes. I ran out in search of a manager. Your manager at the mall of Africa branch took us to his office where he pressed the centre management panic button 3 times and no one came within that first 30mins where I had already managed to cancel all my bank cards and close off all my Internet banking. He clearly stated that the camera in that cinema was not working when I asked to view the footage. Later on he changed this statement to "there are no cameras" in any of the cinemas. No one wanted to take any responsibility or assist us and we were tossed between mall security and ster Kinekor right up till midnight. We were told by the manager at the time that the footage would be reviewed, a case number would be issued and I would be fully compensated for my losses.

My fiancé Adir Jugnarayan posted this complaint in a very polite manner on this page a few days ago. We have spoken to the mall of Africa manager who has basically indicated that nothing can be done but he can only offer us free prestige movies whenever we feel like so basically a bribe for us to stay hush about your lack of basic security and effective process flows? I understand mall of Africa is one of the largest malls in Africa, but I don't think they meant that you should leave large gaps under your cinema seats or large gaps in your security procedures.

Your customer care department offered us a case number but then proceeded to say it was pure negligence and nothing can be done.

If that was going to be the case, in future please do not allow your customers to post on your page and do not respond and give us hope that you actually care, can assist or offer me a case number that I could have generated by myself on a piece of paper and just tossed in the bin, the same way you have handled my case.

If anyone is negligent, it is you. Your lack of security cameras at basic entry points is disturbing. It is almost as if you do not want camera footage to be available in incidents like these to expose ster Kinekor for what they are.

Please note that I do not care to continue contacting you for assistance regarding this matter nor do I want any compensation. You should consider actually looking into securing your cinemas for your patrons sanity because I have officially lost mine and am extremely panaroid in public places thanks to Saturdays traumatic event.

If you really want to do something about this, install cameras in the correct places, acknowledge the fact that you are running a business literally in the dark where many things can go wrong, and please stop selling the public overpriced stale popcorn and watered down drinks.

Thank you
