Ster-Kinekor Eastgate is the worst cinema-going experience on the planet.

Without failure, EVERY TIME my friends and I have gone to see a film at the Imax, Ster-Kinekor Eastgate, there has been an issue.

- STAR WARS EPISODE VII: THE FORCE AWAKENS - The operators at the concession counters were unable to correctly explain how the convoluted 'snack purchase' system works, resulting us entering into the theater LATE. Instead of going to a counter, ordering snacks, paying and going to a movie, one is required to queue at one station to order tickets. THEN you are required to order snacks and drinks SEPARATELY. If one requires 3D glasses, YOU HAVE TO PURCHASE THOSE SEPARATELY AGAIN. Then you are required to QUEUE AGAIN to actually collect the snacks. The system is not working and it is resulting in more queues, more waiting and rushing into films that have already started, DESPITE having arrived there and HOUR before the film starts.

- FANTASTIC BEASTS AND WHERE TO FIND THEM - With absolutely ZERO communication from the staff, the audience was obligated to wait OVER AN HOUR for the film to start. Trailers froze and stopped playing, the lights dimmed on and off and we were forced to watch the first two minutes of Fantastic Beasts with no sound, over and over, about a dozen times, while the staff were clearly trying to sort out a problem. EVENTUALLY the staff came into the theater, and communicated that an amp had blown and they were working on the problem. At that point (after 45 minutes of waiting) audience members began to leave. We were then subjected to random scene selects from Dr Strange for over half an hour while we waited for the staff to say something. By the time the film was eventually finished, no one could talk about anything besides the delays. Completely distracted from the experience and made it a terrible way to spend the afternoon/evening.

- ROGUE ONE: A STAR WARS STORY - Once again, the convoluted concession stand system made us late for the film, despite having queued for over 45 minutes and arriving an hour ahead of time. Unacceptable on an AVERAGE OPENING WEEKEND.

- BLACK PANTHER - This was the final straw. Last night we went to the opening day screening of Black Panther. The audience was forced to wait to enter while the cleanup crew finished in the theater, but the projectionist started the trailers and adverti*****ts before anyone was allowed to enter, thus forcing people to enter a loud, darkened theater to find their seats and causing arguments between annoyed patrons, disorientated by the environment. We made it into the film on time because we chose not to purchase anything from the concession stands, but the queues were seemingly endless and people were finding their seats well into the first 20 minutes of the film. FROM WAITING IN QUEUES. At the end of the film, the projectionist decided he had had enough and cut the playback of the film just after the first post-credit sequence. When we requested to see the ENTIRE FILM (what we paid for) the staff ignored us. We sat and waited for 15 minutes before a manager came to us and (****) explained that there was no way to get the automated projector back on again. You have automated projectors that just look after the playback for you? WOW! A WORLD FIRST! It's also a blatant lie. You're talking to people in the film industry, and you take us for idiots? It's a Marvel movie, part of the experience is THE POST CREDIT SEQUENCES that tease the next film and add to the ENTIRE EXPERIENCE. Now I have to buy another ticket to see a few more seconds that I WAS ENTITLED TO IN THE FIRST PLACE. On top of that, your arrogant, lying staff, disgruntled and exhausted, ignored their job and made their problems our problems.

For the record, I would love to see Black Panther again, just not at your theaters.

Despite complaining every time, no effort has been made by management or staff at Eastgate Ster-Kinekor for any sort of apology, compensation or even an effort to change and improve things. This the only theater I have been to in the Ster-Kinekor family that so consistently has so many problems with absolutely no resolve to do any better.

Film is an art form, and the second you start taking that seriously, your audiences will to, but after everything I've listed above, I have absolutely no doubt in my mind that Ster-Kinekor Eastgate is out to destroy the movie-going experience for everyone concerned.
