Shocking Disabled Bathroom Condition

I've been going to Ster-Kinekor's across the country for over 20 years. I'm disabled and consequently need to use disabled bathrooms.

I went to Sterkinekor at Tygervalley this weekend to watch a movie. The disabled bathroom was on the furthest end of the cinemas - so truly a mission to get there. But the most shocking part of all was the fact that the lock on the disabled bathroom was totally broken. The way the staff nonchalantly told me this, made it abundantly clear it's been broken for a long time and nothing was being done about it.

It was humiliating and degrading to ask someone to stand outside the door for my own safety and privacy to ensure no one walked in.

The cinemas catered well to ramps and lifts, but it's evident the disabled bathroom was an after thought when it comes to it's location in regards to everything else, and since it likely doesn't bother most that the bathroom isn't working properly, it just gets left as is.

This is completely and utterly unacceptable.

Disabled people are PEOPLE. We have rights and dignity. And do not deserve to be an afterthought with no safety or privacy in a public bathroom.

Do better Sterkinekor.
