Own drinks

I went to Vaal Mall and took my own drink "Bottle of coke " like i have done on so many times before openly and this time was told that i was not allowed to take my own drinks into the cinema. I asked for some kind of written statement that i could not take my own drink but they could not provide me with any . I have even looked at their website and could not find any reference to this . Is this allowed or not ?
