Your rules Your world Your time Your future... Ya right!!!

I approached Standard Bank after I lost my job.

I lost my job on 21 January 2020.

I moved to FNB on 24 January to open a transact account which cost R50 per month as my account with Std costed R250 per month in fees alone.

On the same day I went to Std Bank Vangate to close my account and was told they could not close the account because of debit orders pending.

I then left the account as is.

Please note that at this time I just lost my job and in a different head space not knowing which way to turn.

The bank charges are now at R4000+ - due to fees and unpaid debit orders. I asked Std bank to please close the account and stop any or all activity from this account. This was their response :

"Apologies for the delay in response as I have been working remotely. Subsequent to our telephone call the account can only be closed once the outstanding balance is settled or you could conclude a payment arrangement with"

I asked if standard bank would not be able to wave these fees after. I have been a client with them for some time with no issues.

This is how they "meet you half way" Standard Bank Bank with us Who you are and where you’re going should matter to the people you bank with. Whatever your next, we’d love to come along for the journey.
