Wrong bank card issued

After relocating from Gauteng I visited the Knysna branch twice to change my address. Suddenly a courier company called to deliver a new bank card, but informed me that they could not unless I had my address changed. This I did again and was assured by the bank employee that the card would be sent to the branch. A few days later I was informed by WhatsApp that my card had been delivered to the branch in Gauteng which I had used before. I called the call centre and after a lengthy wait I was assured that the card would be rerouted to Knysna. That was a month ago. Today I happened to be in Knysna and went in to the branch where my name was taken and I waited for about 40 mins to be called. The bank employee was friendly and checked online to see why the card had not arrived. The tracking system informed her that the card had been returned. Now she had to call the call centre, waiting and listening to music. In the mean time she checked the cards that had been delivered and found one with my initial an surname. It was however a gold card and I had a platinum card. She asked the call centre to issue the correct card and then proceeded to book out the gold card to me, even though I indicated that my card was still valid and that I would wait for the correct one. She said I should have it "just in case". After completing my shopping I started home when my phone rang. It was the bank employee asking me to bring the card back, as the correct owner had come in to collect her card. Two people, same surname and initial. Cards today are programmed to tap. I could have used a stranger's card to buy anything. What concerns me most is that a card can be issued without checking the ID number. And I still have to wait for MY card to be sent to Knysna. Well done Standard Bank
