Why have branches if it is impossible to reach them telephonically?

DREADFUL - ABSOLUTELY POOR! It is impossible to speak to a branch. One has to phone the national number and then explain the reason why you want to speak to someone at your branch. Only then do you get put through to your branch. After that, the phone rings and eventually you are cut off. One spends hours in an attempt to do so, to no avail. I suggest that management focuses on this problem as there are many banks to choose from. Surely this has an impact on the bank's future …!!! I will most definitely not recommend Standard Bank for this reason. Fortunately, I am not a customer. My 88 mother is and has been for over 50 years and due to this huge challenge now has to go to the branch and risk her life in doing so.

Reviewer Update
I addressed an e-mail to '***' last week explaining the experience. I did so on the recommendation of the last person I spoke to when I dialed the national number (Tshepo). Tshepo tried his best to assist me to try to get through to the branch to no avail. It is also just wrong that people like Tshepo do not receive credit for their patience and also have to experience the frustration of customers. Tshepo also tried to rectify the problem I called about (reversal of bank charges). He did mention that it may take a few days to reflect in my mother's bank account. I am looking out for it. The fact still remains - branches should answer their phones or respond to e-mails that staff answering the national number send them to do so.
