Where has my R 2 000.00 gone? I thought banks protected our money...

16 February 2017 - I deposit R 2 000.00 cash into a new Standard Bank ATM at Chilli Lane on Rivonia Road, Sunninghill, Johannesburg. The ATM swallows my cash and immediately displays an error message but doesn't return my cash.... It's all gone!

I check my balance as these new generation ATMs offer a 'cash deposit - immediately avaiable' function but the R 2 000.00 is missing. I call the customer careline seen on the ATM from the scene of the crime (yes, I'm calling it a crime) and am ensured it will all be resolved urgently and that I will receive an SMS with a reference/case number after the call. I get an SMS: "Standard Bank: Service request no. ********** 414 due on 23.02.2017 is now open. Queries? ********** 000."

23 February 2017 - Nothing!!! I don't hear a thing from Standard Bank. Not only have I been without R 2 000.00 for a week (since 16 Feb) which was desperately needed, but Standard Bank, with whom I have been a client since the late 90's, don't even bother to pick up a phone or send another 'false' SMS.

I now start calling the number provided within the orginal SMS received on 16 Feb - ********** 000. I am on numerous occasions ensured that the matter has been escalated and that someone willl get back to me ASAP.

13 March 2017 - Still NOTHING!!!! No one has bothered to contact me and my R 2 000.00 is still M.I.A. presumed dead or kidnapped. The best part: I call ********** 000 again... After explaning the situation AGAIN, and waiting for mintues at a time AGAIN, I am finally told in almost as many words 'You are wasting your time calling, we can't help you, escalating the issue won't help. You need to visit the branch yourself.'

So, to make sure I understand this situation correctly, I'll make bullets for everyone:

- Don't call the Standard Bank customer care line - they don't care.

- Don't call the number Standard Bank gives you to call if you have any queries - they can't, and don't want to help with your query.

- Don't believe anything Standard Bank says, they lie and don't stick to their promises.

- Don't trust Standard Bank, they ***** your money.

Please can someone call me to resolve this issue.

Thanks, Angus Morton

**********
