Vehicle Finance - Proof of Insurance

I have been receiving SMSes for the last few months insisting that I send proof of insurance of my vehicle. These SMSes were completely unnamed, and as such a paid little attention to them. Searching Hello Peter, I found many many people complaining about this so called SBMAC insurance, a wormhole within Standard Bank that is almost impossible to find.

I eventually got an SMS stating that my vehicle will now be covered on my behalf. To confirm this, I got in contact with the finance department, which redirected me about three or four times to other departments. Eventually I was told that I need to send my proof of policy to a specific email, which I did immediately. I received no confirmation or receipt of this email, so two weeks later I phoned them back. Another three redirects and I landed up speaking to someone from Motor Assist Cover (something that doesn't even seem to exist from a simple Google search). I was informed that my policy document was not received, and that I should resend it, and send to a new email address as well, which I have now done.

A day later and I have phoned to check with them. The Motor Assist cover department confirms that my policy reflects, but then redirected me back to finance to check if I will still be debited for insurance from Standard Bank. I have now been told that the debit order has already been actioned, and I will have to pay, but then claim for a reversal of the amount. This is utterly unacceptable, especially since my initial email was sent over two weeks ago. Not only this, but the amount being deducted for insurance is absolutely ludicrous, well over double what I am currently paying.

I would strongly advise not getting any kind of vehicle finance through Standard Bank, if this is the kind of poor communication and backhand dealings that are going on.
