Utter incompetence with no recourse.....

I have held an account with this institution since my preteen days with continuing support for what i believed to be the most competent banking institution in South Africa. Midway through last month a letter was recieved from SBSA Card division stating that if an outstanding amount of R27-72 was not settled on my creditcard account within a few weeks ALL of my accounts with SBSA would be closed. There had been no previous letters or communications of any kind prior to this so it was quite surprising to recieve such an ominous threat from an institution i held in relatively high regard.
Once the letter was recieved my representative went to my branch and enquired as to what was going on. It then came to light that SBSA had been charging me for a service they were not providing (mailed monthly statements) and once these charges were reversed the account was in the positive.
At this point SBSA Card division had already closed the account even though it was prior to the date specified in the threatening letter which is absolutely unnacceptable never mind the future ramifications this action will have on my credit rating.
I am currently working in China and have had to pursue this nonsense from abroad with no competent resolution put forward. I have contacted them by email 3 times with the automted response of a guaranteed come back within 48 hours but to no avail.
It seems this institution believes that the onus of resolving issues due to their staff's incompetence is the resposibility of their customers which i find truly unacceptable nevermind the future ramifications their actions may have on my credit rating in future and we all know how important that is. The fact that i was never notified about their intended actions prior to the implemetation of said actions reveals how menacing this institution can be especially when their employees take no direct responsibilty for their actions. I will continue to attempt to find a resolution to this problem through their prescribed channels but i hope that people will be aware of the true nature of this beast.

The customer service department was very quick to respond to this post and i thank them for that. Once i had given over my details the next respondent clearly didn't read the post and claimed that i had requested the account closure even though the mail is pretty clear in this respect. This clearly shows a lack of ability or possibly true concern for their clientele as far as i can see. I have now been referred directly to the Card Division but have yet to recieve any acknowledgement of attempt to resolve this incompetence or any contact of any kind and this is 5 days later. I guess the wheel just keeps on turning when there is no real concern about customers and rather only the bottom line.

Unfortunately a serious lack of competence is clear as your response was addressed to my father and claims that the reason the account was closed was due to a lack of deposit for a period of six months even though the negative balance was Standard Bank's resposibility due to the ******* billing for a service that wasn't supp****( Mailed monthly statements)which was acknowledged by the refund to the account. Once again ,my original assumption is quite correct as incompetence seems to reign supreme within this once great institution. I have never heard of a requirement that a deposit must be made within 6 months in order for a credit card account to remain open and i suppose this is just an attempt to mask the utter incompetence of this institution. This matter has by no means been addressed and you can claim that unicorns exist but you are by no means any sort of authority on that either.

I expected more.
