US$ Inward payments FAIL
I expected US$ funds into my account this week as my colleagues who bank with other banks received their salaries before I did. I called the Inward Payments department call centre and there was an automated message that said there is a 3-day delay for processing payments and that is why they were talking long to field calls. I put my private banker on the case and at 2pm on Friday 28th September, she eventually got through to a Inward Payments consultant who confirmed my details and processed the transaction. He said that the funds would be in my account by COB on Friday. But I received no sms notification and when I checked my online banking, the funds had not been processed. On Saturday there was still no change in my account so I sent an email to the Private Banking email address but received no response. I then went to the Sandton City branch looking for someone to help me out. Firstly, there is no Private Banker in that branch (really?) so I was sent to a Service Consultant. I explained my story and said that I was stressed because debit orders are due at midnight on the 30th and my funds hadn't come through. He cooly said that he was unable to do anything because the inwards payment division was closed over the weekend so I must come back on Monday and query again. Seriously??? A division is having a systems issue at month-end yet they still decide to close for the weekend. Are only the IT guys sitting and solving issues behind the scenes? Where are the consultants to see to customers' queries during this crazy time and why don't branches have access to make something work or does Standard Bank not care? I must stress about no money and then be forced to go into overdraft (which Standard Bank will charge me for) when it is THEIR fault for not moving my funds?
What's my next? A different bank.
