Urgent: Unauthorised Credit Limit Increase and Incorrect Debit Orders

Good day,

Title: Urgent: Unauthorised Credit Limit Increase and Incorrect Debit Orders

I am extremely disappointed with the service I have received from Standard Bank regarding my credit card account.

I have been a loyal client since 2007 and have never experienced such poor service. My credit card limit has always been R15,000. Over the years, the bank attempted to increase my limit several times, and I clearly refused each offer. My monthly instalment has consistently been between R700 and R800. In January 2026, I woke up to an attempted debit order of approximately R13,000, which caused a negative balance in my account. When I contacted Standard Bank, I was informed that my credit card limit was R28,000. This came as a complete shock to me.

I immediately questioned: When was my limit increased? Who authorised this increase? Why does my banking profile still reflect a R15,000 limit? Why was I never informed or asked to consent?

I was told that the matter would be investigated and that I would receive feedback. To date, I have received no response, I called again and was transferred between five different consultants, holding for over 45 minutes. Eventually, I was told that my account had been handed over. This is extremely concerning, as this situation is now affecting my credit record.

I was assured that the debit order would be reverted to approximately R800 per month. However, just yesterday another debit attempt of R13,000 was processed again.

I am formally requesting the following: Written proof of when and how my credit limit was increased from R15,000 to R28,000. Voice recordings or documented consent where I allegedly authorised this increase. A full breakdown explaining why I am being debited R13,000 per month.

Immediate correction of my credit profile if it has been negatively affected due to this error. This matter has caused me severe financial stress and frustration.

I expect urgent intervention and resolution ***
