Unknown transactions on my account

Standard Bank keeps deducting R40 every single month from my business account as an “honouring fee”, on top of monthly admin fees and account fees. This is ridiculous. What exactly is being “honoured” every month? There is no clear explanation, no transparency, and no justification for this charge. It feels like a hidden fee slapped on quietly, hoping customers won’t notice. Charging admin fees, account fees, and then an extra R40 for nothing clearly defined is blatant double charging. If there is a real service behind this fee, it is not communicated properly. If there isn’t, then this is just money being taken unfairly. For a bank of this size, this kind of fee structure is greedy, confusing, and unacceptable. Business customers deserve clarity, not vague line items that look like cash grabs. I would not recommend Standard Bank business banking to anyone who values transparency.

Dear Xidavini,

Thank you for reaching out to us.

An honoring fee is charged when a transaction is processed despite there being insufficient funds in your account. This usually applies to transactions that had not yet been banked by the merchant at the time.

The bank covers the shortfall to ensure the transaction is not declined, and the fee reflects that service.

We recommend reviewing your statement for any transactions that may have been banked late while there were insufficient funds available.

Please also note that service fees charged to your account are deducted from your available balance, including any latest and available funds.

Kindest regards,
Standard Bank Hello Peter Team
