On the 16th March 2016 I went to Standard bank Briardene branch to apply for vehicle finance, upon arrival I spoke to a lady by the name of Nosipho who helped me with this, I told her from the beginning that I need to apply for vehicle finance and the amount was R45000.00 outstanding on the vehicle that I wanted the finance for. She told me I need to get 1 more payslip and a statement. She did the application and then said that she will contact me via email.

On the 18th of March I sent her the documents that she required but I didn’t receive a reply. She then rep**** on the 29th of March which was after a week, saying that she was on leave and that she needs a settlement letter.

On the 30th March I sent her a settlement letter as she requested.

On the 01st April I received the email below.

From: Ramchurran, Nitesh NJ

Sent: 01 April 2016 12:11 PM

To: Ndlovu, Nosipho NN (Branch)

Subject: RE: Lisha Hiralal - Application for Vehicle Finance

Good day Nosipho,

Unfortunately application declined due to principle debt been below R50 000. Please off the client a personal loan in need.

Regards

So please help me understand why they did not just apply for a personal loan at first, rather than making me apply for vehicle finance if they knew that the debt needs to be over R50000.00

On the 4th April I sent her an email advising that she has all my details and to please apply for a personal loan for R45000.00

Then she told me that the loan has been approved. I told her I will see her on Sa****ay to sign for it.

When I got to the branch to sign for the loan she offered me an upgrade from a savings account to a Cheque account, I was a bit hesitant as I had my issues with Standard bank in the past but I did it. She then closed down my savings account without me knowing, she said that she switched all my debit orders, she also said that she will call Absa and give them the new banking details.

When I was about to leave I asked her if my old account is open she said that she had mistakenly closed it and that she will transfer R100 to that account and re-open it as my loan that was approved is supposed to be deposited into that account.

I went to the ATM that same day and none of my accounts were working. All my savings account was closed down she didn’t re-open it, Cheque account had no money in it but she had transferred all my money from savings into it. Even my market link account had nothing in it.

After a lot of emails and phone calls I decided to go and see someone higher than Nosipho they asked me to speak to Nalini in the branch to complain about how long a simple loan is taking to be sorted out, she said that she will call me on that Monday morning, but she didn’t even have the courtesy to do that.

On Monday Nosipho emailed me to say that I am not the only one having this issue all their clients were having the same issues which I find very hard to believe.

Eventually the loan money was transferred into my Cheque account, it probably took so long because she had closed my savings account.

They made an excuse saying that there was an IT error therefore the funds could not be seen in my account because she had closed down the savings account and could not reopen it.

On the 30th of April I got a bank statement and noticed that Absa did not take out the installment for my other vehicle, Nosipho has told me that she will call Absa on the day that the loan was approved and change the banking details for them to debit on the new cheque account. Now I have 1 month installment which is not paid due to her negligence and still it has not been updated therefore I have put this notice and require someone who can assist me as I cannot keep going to the bank every weekend.

As it is for a simple loan I had to go to the bank like 4 or 5 Sa****ays in a row. This is really unacceptable, your staff should take more pride in their work and assist their customers. What is really shocking is that a loan which takes 24-48 hours to be deposited into your account took me at least 30 – 45 days to be sorted. Is this the kind of service that a loyal customer deserves?

I have been banking with standard bank for the last 12 years and this is terrible service that I have been receiving. I need someone to firstly change my details with Absa as this was supposed to be done from day 1 of closing my account, I will not go to Absa to do this as I do not have the time to keep going to banks for others mishaps.

I require urgent feedback regarding the matter as I do not want this reflecting negatively on my credit profile due to others mistakes.

I’m also considering taking my banking elsewhere as I’d prefer a more professional & helpful bank to deal with my finances.

A VERY DISSATISFIED CUSTOMER

Lisha Hiralal
