Unfortunately, that trust has been badly shaken.

I never imagined I would have to write a post like this about a bank I have trusted for more than 15 years. I have been a loyal customer of Standard Bank since 2009 – from my student days until now. Like many South Africans, I believed that my bank was the last line of defence when it comes to protecting my personal and financial information. Unfortunately, that trust has been badly shaken. Recently, I discovered that a cellphone contract was *****ulently taken out in my name through Standard Bank’s mobile division. A device was purchased using my account – without my knowledge or consent. What makes this even more shocking is how obvious the red flags are: • The purchase was made in Johannesburg • I live and work in Port Elizabeth, Eastern Cape • I never app**** for, requested, or authorised this contract • The bank has full access to my transaction history and profile • Yet this *****ulent transaction was allowed to go through When I picked up the ***** and reported it, instead of receiving urgent assistance and protection, I have been taken from pillar to post. I am being treated as if I am the problem, rather than the victim of a failure in Standard Bank’s own systems. This incident happened within Standard Bank’s own division – not through an external retailer – which makes it even more concerning. I am attaching the invoice/document here for full transparency so that Standard Bank and the public can clearly see the *****ulent transaction and the details involved. All I am asking for is simple and fair: 👉 Reverse the *****ulent charges 👉 Cancel this contract immediately 👉 Protect my account from further abuse 👉 Take responsibility for this failure As customers, we trust banks with our identities, our salaries, and our futures. That trust means nothing if basic ***** detection systems cannot even flag a suspicious transaction like this. I am deeply disappointed. I hope that by sharing this publicly, someone within Standard Bank will finally take ownership and resolve this matter urgently. #CustomerService #*****Prevention #Banking #ConsumerRights @Standard Bank South Africa
