Unfair freezing of current bank account.

My wife and I ordered Smart I.D. Cards in Kimberley from Home Affairs Northern Cape. We relocated to Strand in the Western Cape just before the cards arrived in Kimberley. We asked Home Affairs Northern Cape to send the cards to Home Affairs Somerset West. The request was denied because, apparently, there was no money. We were told to wait for thenew financial year. However, when the new financial year arrived, our cards were not couriered, despite repeated phone calls and e mails and many empty promises from Home Affairs. When Standard Bank queried our lack of a smart id card, we explained our dilemma to the Strand Branch and Helderberg Branch and they seemed sympathetic. We continued using the old "Book of life" id. But out of the blue my wife's account has been frozen because she does not have the new I.D. smart card in her possession. It seems unfair that she has been penalised by Standard Bank because of the incompetence of South African Home Affairs, even though we had clearly and nicely explained our challenge to Standard Bank. Before this drastic step, perhaps Standard Bank could have put pressure on Home Affairs to help us,or better still, have arranged the couriering of the Smart ID cards themselves. Very disappointing from Standard Bank and no solution in sight.
