********* code of practice
We have all our accounts and bond with Standard Bank. I'm greatly disappointed in how this organisation conducts its business. We experienced flood damage in Feb 2015 and all was repaired satisfactorily by a SB appointed repairer. We are now moving to Cape Town and SB say that there is a retention order on our bond which we found out about by accident. Last week an SB appointed assessor came to assess that our property was in good order to lift their retention order. He told me that he was calling the bank right after to have this order lifted which I duly saw him do. SB now want us to provide plans for the property to prove what was paid out for repairs was above board. Standard Bank bonded this property in GOOD FAITH to us. THEY sent an assessor to assess the property before THEY granted us a bond. Its THEIR RESPONSIBILITY to ensure whatever property THEY bond is in good order to grant a bond, NOT the buyer. This retention order seems a deliberate attempt to claw back money paid out for repairs. SB should have house plans as THEY hold the title deed. They have neglected their duty to their customer of 12 years standing. Disgusting business practice! Their slogan: Moving Forward!
