unable to close cheque account for years already

i have been trying to get a cheque account closed with standard bank for a good few years now. i have been inside the branches multiple occasions with no success. This is such a painful experience with standard bank and their poor customer service. every time i go to the branch I get told to contact the call center which can't also help.

Please standard bank this is my last resort before I take this to the banking ombudsman.

The account has accumulated over R13000 in bank charges and I have been listed with the credit beuru due to this as well.

everytime I go inside the branch I asked for the account to be placed on hold to not accumulate bank charges and each time every consultant assured me that no charges will be charged.

i need this account closed and I would like this bank charges removed.

i receive statements each and every month with charges accumulating and yet i have been countless times to your branch to state i am not working and can no longer afford to keep the account. they assured me that the account is closed but to my surprise it has not been closed
