Transfers between own accounts at same bank not available

4

Good day,

On Sunday evening 04/12/2016 my wife transfered a sum of money (R6000) from her Standard Bank Money Market account to her Cheque Account. It is now tuesday evening 06/12/2016 and the amount is not available in her cheque account. The account balance reflects the transfered amount, however the available balance does not.

She contacted the call center and after a very frustrating 30 minutes was told that the web site says that it will take 1 business day for the transfer to reflect. However, since she did it on a sunday, the 1 day only started from monday so should only be available on Tuesday evening - 48 hours after the transfer. If she logged a complaint via the callcenter she was told it would take up to 5 days to resolve!

How is it conceiveably possible that transfering her own money from an account that belongs to her to another account that belongs to her at the same bank cannot be available - and that it takes so long to do this transfer? Essentially this implies that the bank is holding money that does not belong to it.

The bank I bank with (FNB) reflects EVERY single transaction and amount I transfer between ANY of my banks accounts at FNB immediately. Every sum of money is availble to me immediately after transfering. I do not understand how a bank in 2016 cannot supply this service - a service that the customer actually pays for.

This is not acceptable.

So we are now into the third business day and the money is still not available - after being told by the call center agent that it would be available by last night.
This is really, really really terrible service from the bank and completely unacceptable.
