Time-wasting branch closures

To Whom It May Concern

I am very dissapointed in Standard Bank.

I want to open up an account with SBSA and the only way to open the account I am interested in is in a branch. Why this can't be done online is shocking, but nevertheless...

So today I took the time to gather the right documents and headed for the Sandton City branch. When I got there the branch was closed with a "Temporarily Closed" sign stuck to the door. I was already disgusted about wasting my time.

I then went to the ****arney branch, which was ALSO closed. So after wasting my own time running around looking for a branch I headed home. On my way I decided to pass the New Market branch in Alberton - the only one left after all the others in the area closed down. There was a line of probably 100m long out the door around the building for people to enter the branch.

I wrote the day and my endeavour off as unsuccessful and a complete waste of time and went home.

Tomorrow I shall try and visit yet another branch, but I'm really not hopeful about the outcome. Seriously reconsidering opening a Standard Bank account - the competitors are looking more attractive, especially those with online application processes.

I have one question, though: How can Standard Bank close as many branches as they did a year or two ago and NOT create an online application/account opening process? With less branches in every area, people are still required to visit a branch for a fairly easy process. Really doesn't make sense.

I truly, truly hope that this can be sorted out as it has caused a great deal of frustration, wasted time and fuel.

Really not happy with SBSA.

Regards

Reviewer Update
Dear Standard Bank

Today I continued on my quest to have an account opened. First I went to the The Glen branch which when I got there at 08:45 (before the opening time of 09:00) had a line of about 30+ people outside. I immediately decided against joining this horrifically long queue and got on the road again.

I then traveled to Melville to visit the Melville branch at Campus Square. WHAT AN ABSOLUTE PLEASURE.

I was greeted by the super friendly receptionist, Leona, who showed me in the right direction. After a short wait my name was called by Ellen who assisted me during this process. I am very impressed by her level of service, friendliness and competence.

After a bit of time I walked out of the branch with my new account opened, very satisfied.

I am writing this review to compliment Standard Bank's Melville branch at Campus Square for providing a high level of customer service - especially the two ladies mentioned previously. It was a pleasure doing business with them and I am very excited and hopeful for my journey with Standard Bank.

Well done, and thanks a lot. I look forward to visiting the branch again to collect my card. :)
5 stars!
