I went into Standard Bank at Liberty Mall KZN about 6 months ago and closed my Standard Bank Blue Bean credit card as I've moved all my banking to FNB and Nedbank and I hadn't felt any need to utilise the Standard Bank credit card as the other banks facilities were way better, there was a small amount outstanding mainly interest accumulated and bank charges which I had to pay and then all was settled and my account closed. Prior to me closing my account I paid my account by debit order every month. I received a call approximately 2 weeks after closing my account and they did an exit interview with me to find out why I closed my account and if I would consider banking with Standard Bank again in the future etc. Never heard anything again. Today I received a threatening letter stating that my credit card has been cancelled due to my continued failure to pay my account and that my account has been handed over for debt collection. The amount I owe according to this letter is R51.67 which I assume is interest accumulated again. This is so pathetic and I do intend on taking this matter further as I will be contacting my lawyers tomorrow. I don't see how standard Bank can keep getting away with robbing people so openly. I now know why I moved my business banking and personal banking over to Nedbank and FNB.
