The ATM swallowed my cash deposit!

I have just returned from the bank, where I attempted to make a deposit. Unfortunately, the bank swallowed my cash deposit, with no confirmation or receipt. Here are the details.

Amount: R4000
Time : 15 November 2016, 20h38pm
ATM Location: ****arney Mall ATMs outside branch: the 3rd ATM on the extreme right
Reference used: par 18998

Account number deposited into: [redacted]
Contact Number supp****: [redacted]
Description of event:

I clicked cardless transactions
I clicked Deposit
I keyed in the account number
I keyed in the reference
I keyed in my contact number
A slot then popped open, which I put R4000 into. It sucked the money in a little bit, but then appeared to be stuck. I then begun gently pushing and pulling the notes. Eventually, the machine reported an error: "Notes were retracted", or something alike. However, at that exact point, the machine started accepting the money into the slot, note by note. At the end, instead of being showed a confirmation and being allowed to print a receipt, I was instead taken back to the home screen; the machine looked like it had before I begun using it. It was as if nothing at all had happened. There was no receipt printed.

This is obviously highly inconvenient and traumatic. The ATM should have at least returned my money. I am certain the fault is not my own, as I am fami**** with this kind of technology, having used it several times in the past.

How is one supposed to trust Standard Bank and its technology after an experience like this?

Please note: I am able to supply you with the redacted details privately.
