Sulphur always smells rotten - especially at Standard Bank
Last week I posted a review of the appalling service received from Standard Bank of SA debiting my c/card by a FICTITIOUS and therefore in my view *****ulent amount of R24 286.68c. After a week of time-consuming and what now turns out to be fruitless phone calls to one consultant after another, each of whom - I now conclude - were like rabbits caught in the bright headlights of a car in their inability to resolve the issue. It is now clear from a follow-up call an hour or so ago that nothing has been resolved. Promises, promises, promises... one of which, last week, was that the interest charged on this amount, over a month, would be reversed and I would be advised of how much interest already charged to me as a result of the Standard Bank's incapable service and/or IT system. No surprise that I have heard nothing since save for a phone call today from Gorden (he who spells his name as such) asking if all had been resolved. Of course, the answer is in the negative. As I pointed out to Gorden, why should it? Standard bank couldn't care a fig for the inconvenience that their error causes. But wait! Aaaah! saith the patient Gorden. "You are not FICAed!" Funny that, since I was holding in my hand, as he told me this "news" the FICA document, stamped by Standard Bank, showing I was. The good Gorden eventually gave up on me when he realised that he simply could not answer for the bank for whom he works. I suggested he bring the matter to the attention of the outgoing CEO, Sim Tshabalala, who was once feted by some of us in this suburb in which I live since the school he attended, down the road from where I am writing this, had celebrated his then appointment as CEO of SBSA as a local success. Success it was then but, as I pointed out to Gorden, as Mr Tshabalalla gets ready to vacate his illustrious position at SBSA, this is one erstwhile "neighbour" of his who doesn't think the bank he still heads as I write this is worth celebrating now. Standard Bank's service now has an even stronger whiff of sulphur than it had last week.
