Sub-Standard Bank
So I want to move my home owners insurance from Standard Bank to another company. Standard Bank evaluated my home last year. So when I phoned SB to cancel they said the new quote must be for the same amount as indicated on their system (R1.1 million more than their own valuation done a few months earlier). I asked them how did they to this obviously inflated amount and the said its because I don't understand the difference between market value and replacement value! I do actually but I think the problem is SB inflates the replacement value to hike insurance premiums. I was also told the new quote must include subsidence and cover for landslides. I was so surprised!! We live on a slope yes and during all those years I had insurance with SB and called them out they rejected all claims related to subsidence and landslides although their reports did indicate it was due to earth movement. Imagine that!! Nobody can tell my why the replacement value is so high either! I find it strange that they suddenly have no record of the valuation done by their own people also! this complaint is another addition to all the others I've lodged against SB over the years.
