Student loan not being closed
In May 2010 my wife took out a student loan for my brother-in-law and signed as his surety.
The study term was 2 years. She has been paying R268 a month to cover the interest ever since.

In mid to late 2013 my we went to the branch in Menlyn square to request to close the account and begin paying off the loan. They said they would put the account in a repayment state and we could pay off the remaining amount or we could continue paying as we were doing at the moment. They gave us an account number that we could deposit into if we wanted to pay extra every month. They also said that because we were closing the account there would be no more interest added.

On Monday 4 May we received a phone call from the student loan people and said we either had to pay off the full amount or a large monthly amount and we had 5 working days to make a decision.
Upon some investigation with the Grove mall branch we found out that someone had made a note that they tried to contact us in August 2012 and left a message.

We've tried laying a complaint with Standard bank but they're ignoring us. We feel that all the money paid since August 2015 should be credited and we can then pay what's left.
