Student Achiever Current Account
I need assitance with a Student Achiever Current Account that was opened YEARS ago. I am unable to remember the year in which it was opened. But it was a "Powerpuff girl" bank card. That alone should tell you how old this account is.
The account was opened by my mother years ago. I recently received an email stating that I owe R4771.02 I was ABSOLUTLEY horrified. As this was a shock to me.
I have not used the account for YEARS, yet I am being charged. I was not aware that the account was still opened. Had I known that the account was opened I would have dealt with this matter. However it was not brought to my attention. No one made an attempt to contact me.
I spoke to a consultant on the 12 July 2020 and I was told I had been handed over to the collection department LAST YEAR (2019), and to date NO ONE has contacted me. The consultant suggested I call back on Monday.
I call this morning (13 July 2020), and I was very rudely told that it is not STD Banks fault because they had incorrect details. I must just pay the amount and close the account. I think that this is very unfair treatment, and its a large amount of money.
According to another clients documents signed in 2012 on the same type of account: " If you do not operate on your account for 45 consecutive days, then your account shall be flagged as semi-dormant . If you still fail to operate your account for a further 45 consecutive days the your account shall be deemed to be dormant irrespective of the balance therein. We shall endeavour to contact you telephonically and shall notify you in writing of the dormant status of your account. If despite notification, you still fail to operate on your account & the balanace thereon is less than one months fees we shall close your account after a period of 28 days."
I requested that my account be closed and the consultant today told me that I have to go into the branch. After me explaining to her that due to being in contact with someone who has tested positive for Covid-19 I am unable to leave the house. She still insisted I go into the branch.
I have asked for a manager to contact me regarding this matter. This kind of treatment is not customer service!
