student achiever account suddenly charges high fees without any notifications.

So this is how it feels like, I mean being *****ed by a corporate. I opened a Standard bank student achiever account in late 2014, why did I choose standard bank, well because close family members of mine banked with Standard bank so I felt safe with them. Last Friday I went to check up on the account because someone told a story about how standard bank told him that he owe them money for an account he hasn't used for over two years. When l got to the branch, the consultant told me that I owe them close to R1700 of monthly management fees for an account that I haven't used for a long time, and they didn't even send me notifications to notify me of this. Even when their own website says that "If you do not operate on your current account ("account") for 45 consecutive days, then your account shall be flagged as semi-dormant and if you still fail to operate your account for a further period of 45 consecutive days then your account shall be deemed to be dormant, irrespective of the amount of the balance therein.

We shall endeavour to contact you telephonically and shall notify you in writing of the dormant status of your account. If despite notification, you still fail to operate on your account and the balance thereon is less than one months fees we shall close your account after a period of 28 days." but they kept on charging me. Now they are forcing me to pay or this will be on my record. I told them that I am unemployed and I am currently looking for a job, they told that I should find someone in my family who will pay for me, I am really dissapointed in this bank. And I just noticed that I am not the only one experiencing this, so they could be targeting students because this is Mzansi, and they know we will struggle to find work after we graduate. Sad.
