On 11/05/16 I created a beneficiary (ABSA bank account holder). Payment to this beneficiary was made around 09:15am. At 09:24am same day I was informed by beneficiary that he accidentally gave me an incorrect account number (one digit too many). I immediately went onto Standard Bank secure message and sent an urgent message for payment to be stopped. At 10:06am same day, phoned Prestige banking (spoke to Thumi), and again requested that payment be stopped. Thumi confirmed that (1) payment could not be stopped, (2) if the incorrect bank account does not exist - payment will "bounce back" to our account and (3) if payment does not "bounce back" to our account, we could (at a cost of R290) request an "internet payment request" and then hope that we get the money back, as there was no guarantee. In the meantime, the beneficiary confirmed that he had confirmed with ABSA that no such account (incorrect number) exists. However payment was released and payment was deducted from our credit card on 11/05/16. Only on 12/05/16 at just before 10:00am (24 hours later), I got a call with regards to my secure message left on 11/05/16 around 09:45am. I find it unacceptable that I do not have any control over my account. It was a matter of minutes after the transaction that we reported and contacted Standard Bank. To simply say that it is impossible to stop payment and that we have no guarantee of getting our money back, is not acceptable - especially given the time frame in which this matter was reported. To date and time (13/05/16 @ 12:15), no payment reflects back to our credit card. Kindly investigate. Thank you.
