*****ing our money
Can not even start to explain how wrong this bank is. My husbands visa has expired he is British. Standard Bank refused to release his funds so he can leave South Africa. They have stated that unless he has a visa they will not give his money. Surely this cant be right. FICA laws state proof of ID and proof of address which he has given them, there is no law compliance reason why they cant give it to him. I his wife of 17 years is a South African citizen we are married in community of property so legaly that money belongs to me too and yet they are still unwilling to transfer the funds to me. We even have a power of attorney stating that I his wife can with draw the funds. Surely this cannot be legal to not give money back to a customer. The money is legit and can it was is salary that he has paid tax on. No one in the Port Elizabeth branch is willing to help us only after 3 visits have they made an official complaint to escalate and to top it off they don't even know where the funds are, or are not willing to give a statement of balance. YES we can go to the ombudsman but due to the fact he needs to leave SA how do we manage that process from the UK when it is not even possible to manage it from SA. When asked what happens to the funds should he leave and never come back the words of the BANK were the funds will just stay with the bank for ever. I can't even till you how traumatic this is that a family has to be separated due to incompetency of the current state of our home affairs let alone not giving the funds that is rightfully due so that my husband can return to the UK. Any advise or assistance would be gratefully appreciated. STANDARD BANK GIVE BACK OUR MONEY AND INTEREST WHICH YOU HAVE HELP ON FOR NO LEGAL REASON AT ALL WITH INTEREST. Note we have bank accounts in other Countries and not once have they stopped us from accessing our funds even though I am not resident in their country, Why is South Africa different.
