Standard Bank’s Insidious Larceny — Again!

Yet again Standard Bank engages in insidious larceny because the bank is institutionally incapable of giving clear, concise, complete, and accurate instructions in respect of its standard practices.

This time it is charging R61.00 itemised as “FEE-UNPAID ITEM ##” dated 30 May 2020. The fee in question relates to a debit order for a home loan repayment to cover which my current account had insufficient funds on 30 May. I don’t know what calendar Standard Bank uses, but 30 May is not the last day of the month, which is when the debit strike is scheduled to occur.

This morning, 31 May 2020, I transferred the debit order amount into the home loan, so all my repayments are properly up-to-date, as Standard Bank can easily verify for itself.

Thus, Standard Bank tried to deduct money from my current account before it was due, and now wishes to punish me for its own ineffable ham-fistedness and inefficiency!

This is unacceptable, and I demand a full refund of the R61.00 “FEE-UNPAID ITEM ##” deduction, failing which I will take the matter up with the Banking Ombudsman.

It has now been more than two full working days since I lodged this complaint, and much as expected, Standard Bank has done precisely nothing to address it other than offer two spurts of meaningless, supposedly reassuring spurts of drivel.

So much for "Moving Forward" and "It can be." What a sad joke.

Thank you, Clint.

My only reservation--and it's a serious one--is regarding the inordinate length of time it took Standard Bank to resolve an issue that should not have taken more than a day or two to sort out.
