Standard Bank will rob you blind
Kindly see correspondence below, do not take out debt with standard bank once you cannot repay they will hunt you down and try and sell your house and leave you and your children homeless.
I am writing you this email today to make you aware of the treatment that Standard Bank clients are receiving. The shocking part of this entire story is that it is the people that are in management positions that are treating your clients the worst.
In the 2 emails attached you will be able to see where my journey started and what has brought about the dissatisfactory feeling I have towards your institution. It has been over a year and I still sit with a bad taste in my mouth towards the management and the treatment that I have received from them.
In a nut shell the following transpired but detailed information is in the emails attached:
In 2014 Standard Bank assisted me with an Advance Account and consolidated myself and my husband’s debt into 1 account, I never received documentation for this loan neither was I ever offered a protection policy for this loan when it was taken out.
In June 2016 I resigned at Standard Bank and my interest rate was changed and moved to 16.5% when I queried it I was told there is nothing I can do about it, although I under stood that I was no longer a staff member and could not benefit from the staff rate but increasing it by double was a bit ridiculous.
In February 2017 at 22 weeks pregnant the company that I was working for retrenched all the staff as they were no longer making money, I contacted Standard to advise them of this and they advise because I was pregnant they would split my instalment between my bond and the advance account, which they ultimately did, although pregnant I still tried looking for work but with no luck.
I was unemployed for a couple of months having to cope with a new baby in addition to the child I already had and without an income depending solely on my husband’s income. By this time my arrangement with Standard Bank had come to an end and I contacted the Advance account department to explain my situation.
I spoke to Marlene Du Toit who told me they could not assist me and that myself and my husband should make a decision to sell our house in order to pay the advance account. I was shocked by the statement, if I sold my house where would I go with my children? She told me to contact the CRR to make arrangements which numerous times I did but they could not assist me.
And before I knew it I was contacted by LGR Attorneys in Stellenbosch, I humbly request that you ask them for the call recording. I literally cried after that call, I was told to pay the full R250 000 or an instalment of R8000.00 a month or they will come for my house repossess it and pay the loan. No matter what I said they weren’t interested.
A week later I got a registered email from them saying that they are going to take legal action against me because I refuse to make payment arrangements.
Myself and husband was forced to go under debt review to protect ourselves, this all because of an advance account bearing in mind that our home loan was never in arears.
Now I come to Mr Joop Dekker whom I have emailed and whom responded to my Ombudsman complaint which I made. Arrogant is not a word to explain this man
In the attached email you will see his response to the ombudsman, he admits the following:
• Standard Bank has no documentation for the Advance account • He admits that a protection policy was never offered to me with the loan • He takes an extract from the advance account my husband had that was taken out before we were married, he also states that my husband at that time received preferential rates which he did not because he was not my husband at the time. And also he needs to educate himself because spouse of a staff member never received special rates on loans only on the transactional accounts • He states that there is a clause that states we are not allowed to take out anymore debt yet the following debt was given to us by Standard bank, Home loan of R695000, Vehicle finance of R250 000 overdrafts for myself and my husband, personal loans for myself and my husband and credit cards they also then went a step further and consolidated all that debt into our bond again afterwards. Is this then not a contravention that Standard Bank made of their own terms and conditions?
About a month ago I approached the advance account department again advising them that I am working and that we would like to consolidate my debt into my bond as it would put myself and Phillip in better standing, I received a response from then stating I do not meet the lending criteria because we are under debt review I then explained my entire story to and that Standard Bank forced me into debt review and the response I received from Gregory Fransman was please contact your debt counsellor.
Your treatment of myself and husband is both disgusting and ********* and everyone I know and work with knows about it, and now I am bringing it to your attention as well. I will be loading it on hello peter, you don’t need to repond to me thank you, because I will just end up being treated like a misfit again. And lastly I will be contacting the media, the people out there needs to be made aware of the risks involved with taking out debt with Standard Bank and the treatment they provide if you are left in a helpless situation.
