Standard Bank wants R4000 for fees

I am super annoyed. I just got an sms to say I have been handed over to a Debt Collector for the amount of R4051.64. I have been unemployed and these were all charges due to unauthorised debit orders. I went into the bank after I first saw it, after the bank deducted more than R800 from an unemployment cheque that was paid into. When I went in I was told they couldn't do anything about it as I must 1st pay what was charged, and from there it just accumulated. It would still make sense if this was a loan or anything, but for returned debit order fees? You could see the only income was the government unemployment cheques, why would there suddenly be debit orders, and then you are not even to assist when you were made aware the 1st time. Do you really think any person has R4000 lying around to pay for bank charges/fees?
