Standard Bank want me to pay for arrears that I did not accumulate for my credit card.

In 2018, I was retrenched, and I app**** for credit card insurance to cover my credit card payments. The insurance paid half of the money I owed. I then assumed that the balance I must continue paying, as initially arranged when I took out the credit card, was through a monthly debit. In 2021, around April, when I was going through my bank statement, I realised that the credit card debit never went through since my retrenchment, and the funny thing is that Standard Bank never communicated that they had cancelled the debit order, and I'm expected to pay by any other arrangements. I then activated online that I need to pay.

I then started to receive calls from Standard Bank that my credit card account is overdue. I then called the Standard Bank to query the amount that I'm being accused to be owing. I asked questions such as why Standard Bank stopped my debit order, because my account always had money, and I was notified before the cancellation, so that I could make cash payment arrangements. I called several times, getting a response that says we will get back to you. All of a sudden, one day, when I called, the answer was changed to " A right person to answer your questions will call", this was around June 2021. In the meantime, I volunteered to make a minimum payment and then later stopped after failing to get answers from Standard Bank because my argument was that I cannot pay for interest that I did not accumulate. I made a follow-up the whole year in 2022.

I then later started to receive calls from debt collectors. I explained to them that I cannot pay for something that I did not accumulate, and the Standard Bank must cancel the interest that was accumulated through their mistake. The debt collector told me that their function is to collect and not to communicate with Standard Bank because they do not have such a platform, and they will never stop calling me. To fast forward my problem, they then later changed to a new debt collector that also gave me the same answer as the previous debt collector.

Today, I received a handover letter that states that section 129 of the National Credit Act will be dispatched to me. The question is, now I must pay what I did not accumulate because Standard Bank do not want to take accountability and resolve the mistake. Is this how we should be ****** of our little money that we have? If Standard Bank values its clients, why they fail to resolve this matter? Beware, this is a robbing business.
