Standard Bank - vehicle financing and insurance colluding to **** customers
I am absolutely livid with Standard Bank!
I purchased a new vehicle via Standard Bank vehicle financing end of September 2018. As part of the transaction I arranged insurance through my broker, and provided proof as required.
Shortly after taking receipt I was contacted by various companies wanting to sell me various insurance products. Standard Bank's insurance division of course also wanted a stab at a sale, but they took a different approach, which in my view is blatantly *********.
Standard Bank insurance sent me an SMS informing me that as part of my financing agreement, I was obliged to provide proof of insurance, and I was requested to forward aforementioned proof (even though I had literally provided proof a few weeks earlier as part of the financing arrangement). My view was that I did not consent to dealing with Standard Bank Insurance and that the financing team would contact me for this type of information, and I therefore ignored the SMS. My view was that I would provide proof if requested by Standard Bank vehicle financing.
This morning, I received an SMS that as I was obliged to arrange cover, and had not provided the required proof, I was being informed that an insurance premium would be deducted from my account automatically going forward.
When I phoned the provided number, the lady I spoke to incorrectly quoted my financing contract date as July, and gave me a "motoassist@sb" number that I should forward proof to. I refused, said that this sounded like a **** to me and told her that I would submit the documents at a branch.
Standard Bank... - The fact that you're requesting proof of insurance literally a week or two after I provided said documents is not acceptable. - The fact that your insurance sales division is requesting these documents is fishy. - You have no right to determine that you will deduct premiums from my account after a few SMSs and toll free number calls! How am I supposed to know that it is really you contacting me, and that I am not being ****med? - I have been a client of yours for 20+ years and am really disappointed in the ham fisted way in which you are handing this!
