Standard bank vehicle finance low communicator
We have been trying to contact the debt department with no joy to get a settlement letter with the latest value owing. We have paid from July 2022. We have even sent an email and no response.

09 Sept 2025, 08:28Good morning,
We received the settlement letter this morning.
The figures are very strange.
How can my settlement amount still be R189,000 when we purchased the vehicle in July 2022 for R220,000 at an interest of 12%( R26,400.00 ).
Please refer to breakdown of payments:
| 2022 | 4066 | 5 months | R20,330.00
| 2023 | 4066 | 12 months | R48,792.00
| 2024 | 4066 | 12 months | R48,792.00
| 2025 | 4066 | 6 months | R24,396.00
| Total paid to date : R142,310.00
|Estimated outstanding balance should be : R77,690.00
My husband can be reached on *** at 12.30pm to 1pm today for discussion.
We are in total shock.
If that is the total then it means we have paid almost nothing back in 4 years!

11 Sept 2025, 13:49The team has reached out and it still does not make sense.
Please provide me with the following which I have already requested :
- A copy of the finance agreement signed for the vehicle.
- What was the value of the vehicle when purchased.
- Kindly advise what the settlement value would have been if there was no debt restructure on the account.
- Please can I have a breakdown of the settlement amount figures and how it was calculated in details including interest.
- If I look at the agreement you concluded with debt busters it amounts to a balance of R229,649.20 over 52 months.
- My question which is not being answered is if the amount I have paid from July 2022 to date is R142.310.00 (3 years). Then how was that money used so far.
With reference to below : According to our records the account balance at entry was R178 264.66 and further there was a - (Balloon/Residual amount for R 75 160.00). Contractual instalment : R 3975.99 at 12.881%. – I was paying an instalment on the car of R4066.00 per month not the instalment on this email.

16 Oct 2025, 11:23This was the response from your team:
"With regards to debt consolidation, unfortunately you are unable to apply for consolidation of debt
at this stage due to your profile being active under Debt Review process unless your profile is
removed from the process with either clearance certificate or Court Order declaring you no longer
over-indebted."

I would like to respectfully seek clarification on one point: at the time of my vehicle finance approval, my credit history was already poor. Given this, I’m trying to understand how my application was approved if I was considered overindebted.
I fully acknowledge my current status under Debt Review and understand the limitations it places on new credit and payment restructuring. However, I would appreciate insight into the approval process and criteria used at the time, as this would help me better understand my position and responsibilities going forward.
If there are any lawful options available for managing my payments more directly, I would be grateful to explore them.
I have been in touch with MFC for my other vehicle and they are more than happy to help me with direct payments and a payment arrangement even Tho I am with a debt counselor?
I await your further advices.
