Standard Bank update SMS's don't mean anything!!

At the beginning of May, I (thought I had) purchased 6GB of mobile data from Vodacom using the Standard Bank Internet Banking app on my phone.

The reason why I THOUGHT the payment was successful is because I received SMS's from Standard Bank confirming the purchase amounts and stating my new account balance.

I was sadly proven very wrong.

Today, on enquiry, the Standard Bank call centre operator politely told me that I should have checked my statement because the SMS's aren't actually a true reflection of my account activity. Apparently, the SMS's are merely there to alert you that someone is using your card/account... Um...? The reason I don't check my statement is because I trust the SMS's! No one has ever told me otherwise! How can these SMS's not be reliable?! If they aren't reliable, what is the point?

Vodacom has now billed me \out of bundle"rates for the entirety of May - over R5000 - almost 10x what I would have paid for the data bundles that I TRIED to buy and THOUGHT I HAD BOUGHT. Vodacom did not notify me until TODAY that I was being billed \""out of bundle\"" rates.

I feel like both Vodacom and Standard Bank have taken advantage of my ignorance as a customer. :(
"""
