Standard Bank unfairly blacklisted for the 20% discount offered on account settlement after payment

Hello Peter,

I obtained a settlement letter in June 2016 with a 20% discount of about R7200.00 leaving the remainder of the balance of about R35 000.00 . The account was settled on the 23rd of July 2016 and the paid up letter was sent to me. I requested Standard Bank to close the account, but they never closed it as the 20% discount was still reflecting in my bank account as outstanding. I asked Standard Bank several times to close the account and the different consultants informed me that they will write-off the balance (20%) whilst other consultants informed that I must pay it, who will pay it.

I have been applying for a home loan since July 2016 and I have been rejected by many institutions based on the low credit score. I noticed on the XDS xpert decision system credit report issued to me during the course of this month that I have been blacklisted by Standard Bank on the same account effective from 3 June 2016, I am not sure how did they manage to blacklist me only the discount part (20%) of the entire outstanding amount at that point in time whilst on the 3rd of June 2016 the total amount of about R44 000 was outstanding. The amount I am blacklisted for is the loan discount I was offered in a settlement letter obtained in June 2016. Standard Bank is in breach of contract and really abused me as I settled the account based on the discount offered and requested that the account be closed.

Please assist me, I need to sue Standard Bank for inconvenience caused by their action.

Regards,

Nombuso Buthelezi
