Standard Bank Unauthorised Disclosure of Personal Financial Information and Possible POPIA Violation

I am extremely dissatisfied and concerned about the way my personal financial information has been handled.

Correspondence regarding my outstanding arrears was sent to third parties and to a some else work email address that I never authorised or provided as a contact detail. I regard this as a serious breach of confidentiality and a potential violation of the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA).

I am currently under debt review, and Standard Bank had already approved a payment holiday arrangement. Despite this, I was handed over to a collection agency, and my private financial matters were disclosed to unauthorised parties.

To date, I am still awaiting:

An explanation as to how my information and email address were obtained. Confirmation of who received my personal information. Confirmation of the legal basis for sharing my private financial information. Assurance that all unauthorised contact details have been removed from their systems.

The disclosure of personal and financial information to third parties without consent is unacceptable and has caused significant concern and reputational harm. I expect urgent written feedback and corrective action regarding this matter.
