Standard Bank Uber transaction *****
I have recently been de*****ed on my debit card account at Standard Bank, upon discussions with various people and research I have noticed a trend on the exact same de*****ing transaction across a lengthy period of time. The transaction was for Uber rides Parktown. I have never used Uber, and the transaction stood out on my account. I immediately reported it to the ***** department, received a case number and am still awaiting an investigation more than 48hrs into this. I cannot transact and am stranded whilst i await my new cards to be resolved. The amount was not reversed by the bank. I use all the security platforms provided by the bank, i.e. blocking online transactions on the app, how then was this still able to go through. I also did not receive a OTP for the transaction.
With reference to this *****ulent transaction, seeming that this is not new especially to Standard Bank, my question is what has been done to prevent this? How has Standard Bank tried to address it, if ever done so? Why is this still happening to users? I don't understand how debit card information is being compromised on a specific *****ulent transaction time and time again across multiple users. I have been told that the merchants need to bank the transaction for the investigation to begin.
Why should I wait for a transaction that is *****ulent to be fully transacted off my account before something gets done about it.
The second part of this that bothered me the most, is that I had discovered upon me diving deeper into my account and this transaction , is that my old debit card which should have been deactivated off the system by Standard Bank was not done, I had it destroyed it but virtually this was still active and not removed or deactivated by standard bank. What baffles me is that I had activated my new card in a branch and one would only assume that the bank and their employees will do the needful to ensure a client's security.
I am one of many people that have faced the same situation and would like to know what is being done to prevent this in the future especially to people that do not understand these *****ulent transactions and how to have it resolved?
