Standard Bank Uber-Eats ***** and lackadaisical response

I had an unfortunate experience where there were two attempts by ****s of buying Uber Eats food using my standard bank account. I am main-banked with another bank and I only use this particular account for paying my bond so generally there is very little funds in it. So these two attempts at buying food failed due to there being no funds. This happened late on a Sunday evening a few minutes apart. Standard Bank charged my account R8.50 each due to there being insufficient funds but failed to alert me of these transactions. The next day, I logged into the SB app to check balances etc. to make a deposit for my bond and noticed these two *****ulent attempts. I duly called the ***** line, cancelled the card and was told that I will be contacted in 12 business days with feedback on the investigation. I was also told that this was card ***** and since the card is cancelled, I will need to go to branch to replace the card. All inconvenience but I had to get it done as my bond needed to get paid in a few days

After this, I transferred funds to this account for the bond debit order and waited for feedback from standard bank on the ***** investigation.

After waiting a month, I called back and gave the ref number and was told that the investigation never took place and the it was closed as "NO FUNDS WAS TAKEN FROM MY ACCOUNT".

What I find RIDICULOUS is that there were attempts on the account that SBSA, who was supposed to keep my money safe, failed to prevent it from happening in the first place, failed to notify me of it and then failed to investigate it. More ridiculous is that I was charged for two failed transactions. The scary reality is that if I had paid in my bond funds early into this account, I could have been cleaned out and my bond wouldn't have been paid!

So I put it to the agent that what is SBSA doing to stop this from a happening again? What if I had money in the account and all got ******? How was it possible to get ****** when the bank card is never used so no one could have gotten the card details? Why is there no double or triple layer verification and approval of online purchases using biometrics where I have to log into the app to approve an online payment?

So definitely there is something lacking at this bank. This is the second time this is happening to me and both times these ***** activities was happening from another province.

I have put SBSA on terms in my conversation with the ***** agent that I plan on moving my bond should there ever be a whiff of ***** or ****s happening on my accounts with them. After all, we trust you with our money and personal information, take care of it!
