Standard Bank Taking Ownership of Customers Money
I have been notified that my Standard bank account that I am not using for some time now is in arrears. I was never notified of the cost it involves when not using this account. Then a lady called me and said my account is outstanding with a balance of R1000-00.
We then agreed on a payment of R100-00 per month until the amount is settled. I did honour this agreement for 2 months. I was aware of a sum of money that will be paid into my Standard bank account and that was paid on 26/08/2015.
This amount covers the amount of R800 that is outstanding.
Now I went to the bank to get the rest of my funds that is in a positive balance of just over R2000-00. The answer I got was that there is nothing they can do for me as Standard bank Legal has locked my account and they will only pay out my money after 7 days.
I was never notified that I was handed to any legal apartment. The first thing I heard was when I was called and told about this outstanding amount, even then I have honoured my word.
Who gives Standard bank the right to hand me over to a legal department without notifying me ? and who gives them the right to take ownership of my money.
